Day 129 : Mary Rose Basket #onebuttonaday by Gina Barrett

This little button is based on a few of this style that were recovered from the Mary Rose, which sank in 1545. The originals were worked in a green silk. While these may look like the chequerboard shown in my book, the technique to weave these is different. The difference allows for a fine thread to be used, over a small mould, very quickly without all of the fiddly bits. It also creates a little shank at the base. The weaving is worked directly onto the mould.

Name: Mary Rose Basket
Type: Thread wrapped & woven
Materials : 9mm MDF mould / gobelins filament silk
