Button jewellery for National Button Day

Flower button bracelet kit from Gina-B SilkworksDid you know that November 16th is National Button Day? It's one of those days created to raise awareness of something (usually a product!) and most started in the US. But for button makers and collectors, what a great day really.

For us, it's going to be a busy day. We've got a Create & Craft TV show on the day at 11am. As we are usually in a weekend slot, being in the studio on a weekday will be really interesting for us!

We are launching two new kits - button bracelets. Both kits will focus on ring button designs, and include everything you need. Hopefully you'll be able to tune in. One is floral themed, the other nautical.

Speaking of buttons, today is day 315 of my 'One Button a Day' challenge. I've just had a little feature in this month's Sew magazine. Thank you so much to those of you who are following and commenting. It keeps me going!

And another nice bit of news - we now have a small selection of pure silk chenille thread and au ver a soie silk creative packs (with pure silk ribbon), in our shop. Gorgeous stuff, I promise you. Click here to see them.

Keep warm - the weather is changing!

New product launch this weekend on Create & Craft

More Kansazhi Flowers from Gina-B SilkworksJust a little reminder that we are back on Create & Craft TV this Saturday (Aug 13th) at 4pm. The theme for the show is Kanzashi flowers, and we'll be bringing two new kits.

The first is a new flower kit- showing how to make a few more advanced flowers using layering and trimming techniques.

The second is a new accessory tool kit. This includes a larger drying table (great if you want to make extra flowers!) and new petal holders. So, for any of you who have had difficulty keeping petals folded, these petal holders are the answer.

New range! Kanzashi Flowers launches 9 April

Kanzashi Flowers by Gina-B SilkworksWe are really excited to tell you about our new range - Kanzashi Flower making!

"Kanzashi" is the general term, in English for these pretty little Japanese folded flowers. The word comes from "Hana Kanzashi" = ornamental flower hairpin, which are traditionally worn by trainee Geisha (technically a Geiko, not exactly the same). Hana is the actual work for flower.

These little flowers are made using a lightweight fabric (tradionally silk, though today cotton is often used), and involve folding techniques and the use of a specially prepared starch glue. It is this glue that has made working these flowers in the traditional way difficult in this country.

Gina has wanted to bring this technique - a completely different form of textile trimming - but the availability of the adhesive has been a problem.

Working with a UK glue manufacturer, we have developed a starch adhesive that is exclusive to us, so you will not need to order glue from Japan! Added to that, we'll be bringing tools, materials and of course the how to's so that you can learn how to make these beautiful little flowers to embellish jewellery, hair accessories, cards, home decor and so much more. We've even designed an exclusive range of printed fabrics to create your own little flowers - bringing the tradtional techniques right up to date.

We'll be launching on Create & Craft TV on Saturday 9th, at 11am, and of course the products will be here on our website too. We hope that you can tune in!
